Fullscreen/Partial screen updating

Is the spritebatch the best solution for updating a partial or full screen (say, for a post process)? I have been investing some time in pix and i found out that (well at least, i suspect) the spritebatch does a buffer Lock / Unlock everytime it draws. IS this correct? If that happens, it stalls the GPU multiple times per frame right? what is the best approach for this? Kind regards

It does Lock a vertex buffer, however it's a dynamic vertex buffer which means the runtime will transparently double-buffer things for you behind the scenes to avoid a stall.
