Hi there first post, first day, but the forum seems friendly and useful. I'm applying for a job that I am not qualified to do, in an industry that I am not a part of. Having said that I would probably be very good at it. Here are the job qualifications annotated with my questions, Thanks for your time! >> You will be required to conduct some degree of hands-on testing, as well as being responsible for all functional, regression, load and automation testing. What are the differences between Functional, regression, load and automation, I have some ideas but having a dev's definition would be nice. >> Create and implement testing policies, procedures and standards across specific products. Are there industry standards for these sorts of things? >>Excellent knowledge of accepted software, console game quality, assurance principles, methodologies and best practices. What are examples of accepted software in this field. Are there any good books on these subjects, QA methodologies and practices? Thank you for your time. I in no way expect to get the job but might as well give it a shot right?

The job is for "QA and Playtesting Lead". Supervisory roles exist so that such people tell others what these terms mean.

Yeah, sounds like they're looking for someone with 1-3 years of prior QA experience who can manager/lead other new QA people. i.e. set all the QA policies, set up the test suites, tell new hires how to do their jb, etc. That type of job is simply un-doable by someone who has never held a QA job before.

Hi JP, you wrote:

In your opinion! Read about Q.A. and read Game Testing All In One, too.

>What are the differences between Functional, regression, load and automation

If you have to ask...

>> Create and implement testing policies, procedures and standards across specific products.
>Are there industry standards for these sorts of things?

Yes and no. But even if there were, you don't know how to do them, so you aren't qualified for the job.

>What are examples of accepted software in this field. Are there any good books on these subjects, QA methodologies and practices?

Yes.

>I in no way expect to get the job but might as well give it a shot right?

No. You're wasting their time, unless they have openings for entry-level testers. Can you pass that test? Read about that test.
