I was wondering what methods you could go about using to find out if a point is inside of a polygon and/or an obscurely shaped rectangle. I know this is probably basic mathematics problem but I've tried lots of things and left with only a head-ache. A link, or even something to research is appreciated. Or a basic method on how to do it would be shweet! Thanks for reading. [Edited by - Cakey on January 23, 2009 9:21:33 PM]

Gee thanks for googling that for me guys.*sigh*

Btw for those who are interested, this is the best method I found:
http://local.wasp.uwa.edu.au/~pbourke/geometry/insidepoly/

I was just wondering I guess if there were other algorithms for doing this... But this seems to be pretty quick and reliable.

I honestly did spend two hours or so, trying things with slopes of lines and being ignorant haha. I'll admit it, lol, I should have rummaged google prior to posting, but it is always nice when a human being can interact with you versus text.

It's ok, but you have to keep in mind that this forum sees ridiculous numbers of posts asking questions with no prior attempt to find the answer whatsoever.

You'll find people are much more receptive if you actually mention that you looked, and why the things you found fell short. Or, if you've found lots of approaches, you might ask which approach is best, etc.

Don't take the snarkiness too personally. :-) Glad you found what you needed.
