opengl lighting problem

i''ve set up a seen with a simple terrain mesh and a stationary light. however, when i circle around the terrain using the gluLookAt command, the light appears to follow the camera. for example, i should be able to "stand" in a portion of the map that is bright and move to an area that is dark. but in my case, everything i look at is bright. any ideas what may be wrong? thanks in advance.

You have the problem because the light is transformed by the modelview matrix.

You need to update the light position each time you move.
