Multiple techniques in single fx file

I have one vertex shader and a bunch of different pixelshaders and techniques all stored in a single fx file. This fx file is used for terrain rendering. At run-time terrain nodes know which technique to use for rendering. All techniques are using the same vertexshader but different pixelshaders. In rendering loop, the first selected technique works but after the first SetTechnique() call it doesn't work anymore, ValidateTechnique() doesn't return D3D_OK only the first call returns D3D_OK. Why is this? My problem is similar to this Click

What do you mean by "doesn't work"? What does it return? What behavior occurs in your app? Do the debug runtimes tell you anything?
