OBJ Export Problem

When I use Milkshape 3D and export a model from it to a .OBJ file, my game engine is able to load the vertices correctly and render the model, and everything is fine, but when I export the exact same file from 3DS Max the model's vertices are all screwed up when I go to render. Shouldn't the export for .OBJ universal? I was just wondering if anyone had a similar problem and was able to figure out what could be happening. Thanks.
