shadow mapping only on objects very far away

hello, i tried to implement shadow mapping into my game, and although the shadowmap itself looks fine, the shadows only appear on objects that are very far away from the shadow-receiver. i have decreased the zmin and zfar difference in the shadow-pass a lot, but still the shadows are not always visible. what could be the problem? thanks!

draw the shadow maps frustum onscreen (youll most likely see immediately whats up)

draw a box(-1)->(1) with the inverse project/mv matrices

thanks for your reply.

when i draw the shadowmap on the screen it looks fine!
objects that are close to the light are dark, objects that are far away are light. so i think the precision is not the problem.

what exactly do you mean to draw a box with the inverse matrices? in which pass should i draw it and where?
