FPS Gun Camera

Hi, I know this is a widely discussed subject, but I thought I would ask here first, I am currently gathering information about a FPS im going to make in DirectX and wondered if there are any tutorials on getting a gun right up close to the camera like in any modern FPS, is it just a simple case of positioning a gun model there? And disabling Z-writing so that the gun is flat to the screen? Anyway, I thought here would be the best place to start. Thanks.
