I have no clue where to post this, so if it is in the wrong area, Please move. I am looking into making a 2d game, I am not great at programming, but I can do some. I am looking into 2d game engines, I don't want something like Torque. I was looking into using an engine that used SDL, TinyXML, ODE, etc. I was wondering if there was a good engine out there like that and what it was.

Actually XNA and C# are pretty darn easy for 2d stuff. There are a lot of tutorials out there and a bit of sample code. It is not an "engine" exactly but it gives you the flexibility and ease that you should want.

I haven't used it, but Orb looks like a good fit. Powerful, but with lots of scripting.

I've HGE and it's great, very easy to use. However you'll need to plug in a physics engine, and it's still C++ so if you're not comfortable with that..
