Setting the color when lighting is disabled

Hi, This is my first post here. I'm adding a Direct3D mode in a project of mine and I'm new to Direct3D. I'm using Direct3D version 9. I'm having difficulty finding how to set the rendering color when lighting is disabled *without* setting it in my vertices (no, I just can't do that in my project. My vertices don't have a color component and it would be to big of a modification to add that). I've looked everywhere. In Direct3D's own doc, on Google, everywhere I could think of, but I just can't find it. I'm beginning to wonder if it's even possible (except maybe by leaving global lighting enabled but disabling every individual light and setting the emissive color to the color I want, but that's not a very "clean" solution...). So, if anybody knows how to set the rendering color when lighting is disabled without setting it in my vertices, I would greatly appreciate if you please tell me how. Thank you very much for your help.
