standards for effect files

Hi, Is there any link providing with substantial information regarding the standards most shader effect syntax's use (like CgFX, or DirectX Effect file). I'm currently trying to build a new compiler for shader effects and apart from the knowledge of what I need from this system (mainly to achieve a strong binding between the graphics engine and scene components), the only source of information I have are some DirectX .fx files. My old compiler did not support runtime expression evaluation. Also is there any way I could escape writing a full blown parser apart from integrating CgFx (or any other api) into the system. thanks in advance -obi
