Artifacts on intersecting meshes (when viewed at a distance)

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I'm wondering if anybody can point me in the right direction with this: artifacts.jpg It seems that the surfaces are fighting to be displayed between each other - my guess is that it's something to do with the depth buffer approximating the position of the surfaces at such a large distance away and getting confused? Any direction would be much appreciated, bp

What's your near plane positioned at? A common mistake is putting it at something ridiculously close (like 0.0001) which wastes all your precision near to the camera. Push it out as far as possible and see if that reduces the artifacts enough.

OrangyTang's suggestion sorted it out - near plane was set at 0.001, and far plane was also set far higher than was needed - increased the near plane and reduced the far plane and now it all looks silky smooth...

Cheers for you help ;)
