hey I recently got my hands on a copy of 3dx max 2009, and i was wondering what a good book or any resource for that matter to teach myself all about it. Any recommendations?

Have you tried the tutorials that come with 3ds max?

They cover all levels from beginner to advanced.

For the love of god, please tell me that you've just omitted your error checking code for brevity, and you don't really assume that all those functions succeed.

Eat3D 3ds max 101

This DVD is incredible if you want to pay the money for it. It's about as comprehensive as a DVD can get. Other than Eat3D's videos, the documentation that comes with max is also very good.
