XNA and HLSL Texturing Terrain.

Hello, So I have a heightmap texture which I load in and draw, I now want to add texture to it. I have a colourMap which in the red channel contains a value between 1 and [maxTextures] that I have for this map. I am trying to find a way to be able to do this with XNA and HLSL and keep the performance high. Since I am using XNA, I am capped at SM3. I found this tutorial, but it is mostly theory and I have been unable to adapt it for XNA. http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article2246.asp Any help would be great, pointing in the direction of tutorials would be even better. For basic terrain texturing maybe this article is better to understand the theory and to adapt it for HLSL ...
