iam downloading microsoft visual c++ with difficulty can anyone shed some light?

i have been trying to download microsoft visual c++ and it gets so far and then will not work it stopped at the framework.
can anyone help or do you know of any other programs to use?
Where are you downloading from? What version are you downloading? Are you using a web installer or some other package? What's not working - installing or downloading?

Otoh, for Windows one of the most popular (free) C++ IDEs is Code::Blocks, which comes with MinGW, a free compiler (ported from the GNU GCC).

im getting it from a microsoft web and it downloads ok but will not install im using vista,
and im downloading micsoft visual c++ express 2008.

You need to describe in more detail in future. It would have been a valid question by me if I have asked you "Have you already finished the download?" or "Did you actually start the installer?".
