Problem with D3DXComputeNormals

Hi: I'm a little confused with d3dxcomputenormal. I'm tring to transform 3d model from .ply to a custom file with position and normal information, but there is no normal information in the .ply file. So i was tring to generate the normal using d3dxcomputenormal func, but some normals of triangles are wrong. Is there a bug in the func? I think the model from stanford is ok. Or where could i get the .x ( 3ds maya ) version of the models? The models are here, http://www-graphics.stanford.edu/data/3Dscanrep/ Really appreciate ur help.
