penalty for using new texture formats???

I have been wodring if there is speed or memory penalty for using the new texture formats TGA 32 & JPG 16.

TGA takes more memory on disk, since it's uncompressed. JPG takes up the least space on disk but takes more time to load.

If you are using 16 bit texture format with PR_SetTextureFormat then JPG will use the same amount of video memory as a PCX after you load it, because they both get converted to 16 bit color internally.

If you're concerned about the amount of memory used by textures, stick with 8 bit PCX for most and use JPG for the few that require 16 bit color.

You'll notice in PR 3 that editmat now lets you set the internal texture format used by each image.
