Saving alpha channel into RAW file

Hi, does anyone know a way of saving an alpha channel into a RAW style file format (A8R8G8B8). I am using Paint Shop Pro 6, which will only save RAW as RGB. One method I tried was to save the alpha channel seperatly as an 8bit greyscale image, and then combine the files using a small programm I wrote, but PSP automatically does the alpha blending when the channel can''t be saved. If I were to then add the alpha channel, it would be as though it were being applied twice. Can anyone offer a solution short of learning how to load PSP files?
