I have a patch base modeler and thought just the idea of using patched models in a 3d game. Are there any 3d games using patches? There are some functions like IDirect3DDevice8::DrawRectPatch and IDirect3DDevice8::DrawTriPatch. If anyone has used patches it''d be nice to hear about. What''s the speed compared to polygon based models? Does OpenGL support patches? I tried the teapot patch sample (D3D8 SDK). It was really slow on C600 voodoo3 2000. In a fact it switched to reference rasterizer. So do I need hardware to use patches in reasonable speed? Changing number of segments from 4 to 2 nearly doubled framerate to 4FPS!
