Hi there, I'm now upgrading myself and learning about introducing 3D models into my projects. Usually i would just use an .obj loader to do it for me and brush my hands off it. But the thing is most 3d games don't have models that just sit there and do nothing as their main character. I want to make the models move and behave in the game properly. so my question is where should i start on this subject/topic. any guides or direction i can be pointed so i can start off from somewhere?

I would probably go with MD2 format, http://tfc.duke.free.fr/old/models/md2.htm it's fairly easy to use and understand. Also there are many model package that can export to that format as well or you can find some free one to use on the web.
