A couple of Directx9 questions regarding the basics??

Why is it that my x-axis is inverted? like when i look at +3.0 in the axis, the object (which is at the origin) is moved away to the right and not the left?? Also, why is it that when im using the pre-transformed vertices my axis is small, such that an object can be several hundred units wide and tall and still fit in the page, but when i want to transform my vertices and remove the RHW value from the FVF, the axis becomes huge and barely 10 units in each axis fit the page.. ???
