With your tips, I was able to get apps running in windowed mode. Playing around with different sizes, I found that D3D would perform an illegal operation if the mode is less than exactly 319, 199. That seems to be the size of the trial version sticker, is it clipped? :-)

The routine used to display the trial version image does not perform clipping, so that would explain why your window has to be large enough. With the registered version you don't have to worry about that.
