Hi all! This is my first post here and I hope I have a solution for you:

Have a look at my DirectX 8 Visual Basic engine Tabbit3D - http://sourceforge.net/projects/tabbit3d - you''ll find subs to load and render x-meshes...

The engine is really basic at the moment and I''m thinking about switching over to C++ - if someone liked to continue development of this VB engine, just give me a call :D

Have a nice day!
