Noob needs help with texturing

I am not too new to programming, but this is my first attemp at texture mapping. I need to dispay a .bmp on a surface; how should I go about doing so? Google failed to bring up anything useful. I use GLUT, if that matters. EDIT: Some more details about what I'm doing. I have an array of all the in-game items. The game loops through the array and calls a function of each item which draws it on the screen. I'd prefer to keep it that way because it will make some other features of the game much easier to code. [Edited by - TassadarZeratul on October 24, 2009 12:27:39 PM]
