Pixel by Pixel Collision Response

Once I know a 2d collision has occured(When an object's pixels and the world's pixels overlap) is there a good method of producing an appropriate collision response? Separating the objects, generating some bouncing etc. Although I already have a physics engine at work this is a special case. Details: The reason I depend on the pixels is that I want my geometry/terrain to be destructible and trying to generate shapes for the physics engine as the geometry gets destroyed is quite slow. C++, Box2D, in case it's relevant. Thanks.
