C++ how to detect when an application exit.

Hi all, I would like to figure out how to detect when my applications. I have been searching around for quite some time. My application is a console application but if the solution need me to goes windows, i have no problem with that. Also, my program is suppose to use all available resource at any time. active or inactive, so if I goes windows my only concern is this. :) Here are some findings: using WM_CLOSE - Not yet tested. using atexit - it didn't work when i press the X on the console button. Is there any better way to do this? :) Thanks!
