When patching a program, how can you overwrite the program executable that''s running? Asheron''s Call and Everquest patching both seem to do it, and i''m sure others do too, so it seems as if there''s a way. But you can''t write to the file because its opened by the OS. The only answer i''ve come up with is transfering to another program whose only job is to overwrite the original exe after it closes. But it seems to me, from AC and EQ, there''s a better way to do it. Unless they both do that and I''ve been unable to notice. I appriciate any help that you can offer. I''ve been unable to find anything on it. Kyardan

Welp Fighting Legends does this, and so does Tribes2 (replace exe from another program). I haven''t played EQ or anything so I''m not sure how they do it, but if another program is run to update, than it probably is replaced then.
