DXT1 and alpha blending

DXT1 (.dds) is making life easier when it comes to alpha blending. But lets say you insert a new alpha map using the texture tool and save the file as a DXT1 file, is it in any way possible to render the texture without the included alpha channel? For instance rendering the texture somewhere with the alpha channel and then somewhere else without it (displaying the texture with a pure white alpha, as original). Thanks, help will be appreciated.
