Hi guys, I'm asking how to render a beam like the one you can see in ghostbusters... I think they generate some points in the space and then build a path using a spline (maybe Catmull-Rom) and avoiding to cross the beams of course :P But how do they render it? Do you think they sample some points in the spline and build a triangle mesh? Damn, they're so smooth! Take a look! Please tell me what do you think! Thanks

Just in the case anyone was interested: I think the effect was created using Catmull-Rom splines and procedural triangle strips. I created a small test and I think that the result is quite good.

Trail demo

Hit the 'S' key to toggle slow motion and the 'A' key to freeze/resume the demo (click on the canvas to give it the focus first). To generate a new path just reload the page.
