scale around point

Hi, I'm coding a camera zoom that is essentially scaling around an arbitrary point. The mouse wheel zooms (scales) in and out around the current mouse location. I'm doing this by translating to the origin from the point, scaling and then translating back. This works fine except for when the point changes at which point the scene jumps / moves in the display. After the initial jump the zooms work as expected. Any suggestions as to what is going on here would be appreciated. thanks, Nick
