OpenGL Using Freetype with DX9

Hello! Im trying to use the Freetype-library together with DirectX. I found some examples for OpenGL and from that i suggest that Freetype constructs some sort of an image with the text that has to be set as texture on a arbitrary shape. Now my problem is that i dont really get it how to come to that image with my text. Does anybody of you have experience with Freetype and can lead me to the right direction? Greetings Plerion
