Quick beginner question about accumulation buffer

Does the accumulation buffer need any special initialization in order for me to use it(I'm using SDL)? Because when I used glGetIntegerv( GL_ACCUM_RED_BITS, &NumBits) and for GL_ACCUM_GREEN_BITS, etc, I'm getting zero for NumBits, so I guess that means the accumulation buffer is not supported on my graphics card? Can someone correct or verify the above?

SDL does not allocate an accumulation buffer by default. You have to tell the SDL to allocate one thanks to the SDL_GL_SetAttribute function with the following tokens :
SDL_GL_ACCUM_RED_SIZE
SDL_GL_ACCUM_GREEN_SIZE
SDL_GL_ACCUM_BLUE_SIZE
SDL_GL_ACCUM_ALPHA_SIZE

The value is in bits, so you have to call these lines for 16-bit accumulation buffer :

SDL_GL_SetAttribute(SDL_GL_ACCUM_RED_SIZE, 16);
SDL_GL_SetAttribute(SDL_GL_ACCUM_GREEN_SIZE, 16);
SDL_GL_SetAttribute(SDL_GL_ACCUM_BLUE_SIZE, 16);
SDL_GL_SetAttribute(SDL_GL_ACCUM_ALPHA_SIZE, 16);



If it does not work, it either means you called these lines at the wrong time or that your graphics card really does not support accumulation buffers. The latter case is less likely to happen because most drivers if not all support accumulation buffer, be it in software in the worst case (which is also an issue, but out of the scope of this thread).
