Picking on .x animation mesh with frames

So my code crashs if i tested if the ray hits the animated .x detect_picking(TopFrame->pMeshContainer->MeshData.pMesh); Works fine on say LPD3DXMESH Teapot etc, and this is LPD3DXMESH to from the TopFrame member...Anyone know why?
