Not a month
I've spent 5 weeks working on character studio playback code and it's still not working perfectly. At this point I'm undecided if I should wait and do a Watcom version after I've finished adding 3D Now and DX7 support.

I got a note from them that they were discontinuing Watcom.
Me too, which is why it's not high on my list of things to do.

Hi Chris,
The Character Studio Stuff sounds excellent.
Can't wait, will it just export straight to a CHR, or will PR take the bip files & apply them to the mesh at run-time?

All up I am extremely pleased with PR3. Love the detail textures, and multi mat stuff.

Great Job.
Cheers

What's the current ETR for Watcom PR 3.0?

A while ago you said about a month, I'm just looking for an update.

Gary

I'm going to be releasing the Character Studio stuff tonight.

It's not fully working yet but maybe somebody can help me out. It basically exports .BIP files to my own format and uses the PR keyframes to move the bones. It then deforms the mesh given the bones and vertex weights.

It's not like MD2 where all the vertices are stored in a list. With this the vertex positions are computed on the fly so you can alter the animations, such as scaling the limbs to make the guy fat or adding extra head or waist rotations while running.

The character system is very complex and requires many files to get a character up and running. The export plugin doesn't create the .CHR file for you because of the complexity of the system. Make sure you read the new docs on how to make the files
