Landscape Studio

We had this problem before. You need to extract the files from the newly created LSL file and add them back using wgtlib. There seems to be something wrong with the code inside Lstudio which creates a library file from scratch.

Thanks.

Can the terrain h1.pcx be expanded to a larger area ie like 256x256 etc instead of 128x128? What needs to be modified in code to do this, increase the terrain_size varible ?

Are the terrains created by Lstudio different from those for the space demo, or can the heightfields be adjusted in Lstudio with objects added.

One problem I am facing with LS is the popping up of hills and trees suddenly as you traverse. If I increase the visibility then the frame rate drops drastically. This is reasonable cause the no.of.poly increase. It would be nice if we can make LOD's on the Landscape. Like after a particular distance from the view treat 4 tiles as 1 and still further 16/32 as one and so on. Just a thought

I guess we could try fixing that with fog also as an interim solution ?

The Lstudio file format is different than the .prl, are there docs on how these are familar? I would like to run files made with this through the terrain demo if possible.

Thanks

The landscape studio files are just wgtlibrary files. So are the prl files. Should be able to figure out from there how to create a lsl file from contents in the prl file. Never tried it but should be possible.

.PRL and .LSL are the same file format. They are data files made with the WGTLIB utility. You cannot put a .LSL inside a .PRL or vice versa.

To see the contents of one of the files just run wgtlib file.ext

I guess I am confused then, I can not make files for the terrain demo with LS then ? Or I can make them but I need to edit the parts of the lsl I need for the prl using wgtlib ? Or the terrain demo can load the lsl files, and this is in the manual someplace, and I need to look for it, some API load lsl function ?

You can make a new terrain for the terrain demo in ls. Just be sure to copy the files from the lsl file into the space.prl file. Some of the names may be different but you need a height map shade table and tiles. You can look at the files in the space.prl file by typing wgtlib space.prl from the terrain examples directory as long as wgtlib is in your path. you can view the files in the lsl file in the same way. to see what wgtlib can do just type wgtlib on the command line, it's basically like tlib was for borland although you can't make a list file(i guess you can now that the source has been released). Look at the source for the terrain demo and find what names chris has given to the heightfield, shade table and tile files and extract these from your lsl file, rename if necessary and replace the ones in the space.prl file with yours.
Hope this makes some sense

Has anyone had the error "File not found in Library : height1.pcx" running lstudio after creating a new project and adding the tiles.spr and shade.dat. I checked the lsl file contents with wgtlib and height1.pcx is in there. Not sure where my problem is.
Any insight would be appreciated. thanks.

Can a ariel photographs be used with LS. I mean by just replacing the height.pcx file . If yes how far will the terrain be replicated?
