Has anyone ever attempted this or got any info on it? There's one site where some people have been looking into it and uncovered a few things about the image format and CPU, but there doesn't seem to be anything else. Would anyone have an interest in looking into this? My sister owns one so I'd be interested in making her some basic things to play around with, but it seems a lot of work to go reverse engineering it all and experimenting with it just for that. Maybe it'd be worth it just for education/difficulty value alone. Any thoughts?

Yes, reverse engineering is costly.

This is why people do it for the sake of challenge alone, knowing that they will likely never fully complete it, or that whatever they learn will not be applicable due to potential legal issues.
