Destroyable landscapes

I am in the process of making a scorched earth clone (nowadays, comes in the flavor of pocket-tanks). I am at the point where I need to figure out a way to do collision detection against the 2D landscape. Some of the common interactions would be explosion caused by a bomb, or when a tank tries to move, it can only do that if the terrain allows it to do so. I have 3 days left to complete this game :D and I can really use any help. Thanks and Merry Christmas :)

I also used Riemers tutorial for some theoretical background.

Even tho it uses XNA and c#, the basic idea is conveyed across well. Programming in C++ / Opengl and qt..I do miss some of the XNA functionalities..but, I am learning to do things at the very basic level..yayy :)
