Skeletal Mesh Data Structure

Has anybody seen skinned mesh sample from DirectX 8 SDK. Currently I was tryng to build a skeletal based object for a 3d person, can somebody give me a hand on how to implement it in data structures ? Is it true that bones allready included in .X files ? and how to use it, I can''t find the right documentation for it ??
