Right now I'm going to a community college taking a 2 year course in digital animation. For the first semester, I didn't learn anything because it was at too basic a level, and now I'm starting to see that most of the material I could probably learn by myself in a matter of weeks, simply because the teachers are just teaching from the books. I could stay in it for the degree, but is it worth it? I've also heard that a degree here doesn't exactly get me a job. The only thing keeping me here is the fact that it has residence. Theres also this place. http://www.darttinstitute.com/defaultB.html The course is only half a year long, and it's online, however chances are I'd learn just as much as I would in community college. But how does the industry see a degree received through online training? And then theres this place. http://www.digitalartschool.com/programs/3d_animation It's way more expensive, but if I'd get a better education, would it be better to go there? The downside would be that I'd have to live far off-campus.

That's great that you're in college, and that you have some choices about where to finish off your degree. I wrote an article about how to make a decision between schools: http://www.sloperama.com/advice/lesson25.htm
The "distance from home" thing you mentioned is just one of the factors (among several) that you should use in making your decision.

Oh -- and you asked "is it worth it." That's FAQ 66. Don't go that route! Read http://www.sloperama.com/advice/route66.htm

Thanks for the reply, and sorry for not responding earlier, things have been a bit mad around here lately.

I ended up staying in the school I was already going to. I still feel like being here is pointless, but I'm going to try and use the time I have in order to work on something that might help me in the long run.

Later, and again, thanks.
