3D racing engine

I''ve looked at some free existing engines e.g. Crystal Space, fly3d2, but they seem to be designed for fps games. Are there are good engines designed for racing games?

for the graphics part of the engine:

if you wanna run a game like Midtown madness, this would be:
some simple geometry for the buildings ( big textured cubes ), some hi-res models ( your car, opponent driver), and some low-poly models ( simple cars driving around, a telephone box somewhere... ) . i think a BSP-engine could render this just fine, because of the big buildings hiding much of the geometry...

you could also use the AI-path-system for your cars and stuff ..

oh, and if i think of games like 1nsane ... they just have some nice terrain rendering engine ( there must be millions of them out there, just download one... :-) ) .. but the car physics engine would cause me some headache i think ...
