Hey- I''ve been looking around for info on writing a character animation system, and I can''t find anything that really meets my needs.. There doesn''t appear to be any type of proven standard(like bsp''s, octrees, etc.)for character animation, it looks like everyone just creates their own.. If that''s the case, cool, I can go from there, but if anyone has any good links to some tutorials that would be better , and if anyone wants to comment on the pros/cons of different methods that would be very helpful.. Thanks in advance, -MM "Like all good things, it starts with a monkey.."

Thanks,

I found it tough to find something in between. To simple or too complex. GDM has a very complex system.

I wrote a tutorial for MS3D skeletons, rendering them in OpenGL - http://rsn.gamedev.net

Also, the Half-life MDL loading code might be helpful.

Octrees etc don''t really related to character animation - its usually either 1) vertex animation (eg md2) or 2) bone based animation (vertices tied to bones, move bones). I prefer 2 - easier to do in the modeller Bones is a hierarchy, with the root down, combining rotation/translation matrices along the way.

Anyway, that''s what the tut''s for
