Physics Spring?

I am trying to find a good way of distributing a force/create a splashing effect on the following grid. I've been told what I am looking for is a physics spring although google hasn't been much help. If anyone can point me to an article or give me any info that would be very much appreciated. http://img13.yfrog.com/img13/9056/springf.png Thanks.

That article is discussing using Verlet Integration to do blob physics -- it's the same sort of stuff. It's not terribly complicated; the one "gotcha" is to make sure the timesteps are small enough.

You'll probably want to create "invisible" links tying the vertices to their "correct" place on the underlying grid so that they'll return to the right place when disrupted. The visible gridlines make up the rest of the springs, so force is moved across the grid.

Be careful of edge effects -- if there aren't highly damped springs there to absorb force, the edges will tend to bobble about, and your ripples of disruption will bounce off the edge of the screen and come back...
