Too many sound options. Which one should I add to my engine?

There are many, many threads here on gamedev that discuss XAct-ly that question. You can use the search box in the upper right-hand corner to find some.

the only features you really need for game audio are multiple sound channels (for music and sound effects, or simultaneous sound effects), and maybe the ability to fade sounds in and out. I would say whatever resource gives you that control most easily is the one to go with
