Characters & Layers

I made a character and exported it with max and built the character in the Character editor. In the Max file the character has a hat that I want to add the the character seperately. I read the Character System doc but I still don''t quite understand. I exported the hat with the same animation as the character and I exported the .pro file. How do I ad that to the model? I added a layer to the character''s .scr file then I compiled everything with wgtlib. I must be doing something wrong because when I tried to open the character up then the character editor kept crashing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like the right technique. If you want to send me the .CHR file you made I can take a look.

Licensed users can also compile a debug build of the CHR Edit tool and character library (\pr4\chars\prj) to find out where it is crashing. I''ve only used layers with MD2 characters for the weapons so there might be a problem with regular 3ds animations.
