Repeating part of texture on quads

Hi, I've been having this problem for some time now. I'm using DirectX9 and textured quads to display sprites. The problem is: Repeating textures on quads is fairly simple: you set UV > 1.0 and it's done. When you want a part of the texture to be displayed you use UV < 1.0. What if you want to display a part of the texture AND repeat it on a quad? The thing is I have one big texture with lots of tiles. I want to be able to select one tile and draw it repeated on quads. 10 or 100 times. I know I can just draw 10 quads and I'm done. I just wanted to know if this is possible and if yes then how? Thanks for your help!

Copy the tiny piece of texture from the big texture that you want to have to memory as a separate smaller texture and then paste it on?

Or pixel shaders indeed as mentioned above
