Dear GameDev Community, we have released our first strategy and tower defense mix demo. We think it would be great, if you can give us feedback, criticisms and suggestions. This Power Of Defense (POD) Demo comes with 6 of 13 upgradeable robots, 1 singleplayer level and also with a multiplayer mode for 2 players, so feel free to play with your friends. Demolink: http://www.4sdk.com/powerofdefense/demo Thank you very much for helping us. Some screenshots of POD Demo Version 0.1:

I downloaded it, tried it out for a bit, and found that the first level is just way to easy :)
It took me a second how to actually play or get upgrades, but after that I just pushed robots through the belts and won without any resistance.

It would be nice if there was a roll over text over the various weapons or upgrades. I think there is some form some buttons, but maybe not all.

Nice graphics and sound!

Thank you for replying.
People has now said very often that this level is too easy. Others said that is too difficult. So we decided to implemented a new dynamic AI.
This AI adapts on players behaviour and applies pressure on player if he has too much resources, units, etc... . So this should meet players requirements. I hope.
We also added a new rollover info box for the different types of robots to explain them and their possibilities. Thank you for that. We also added other stuff like tutorial, Camera Movement and of course killed some bugs. You can see these new features on the next demo version "Open Beta" coming soon. It will be announced here.

Thanks for replying Lightness1024,
POD was made with Unity3D engine, which does not support linux officially. We tested once POD under Wine and Linux: It has also problems, if your computer uses a ATI grahpic card, only with NVIDIA we could play POD under Wine and through network. So we do not have an influence on this behaviour. Sorry for that.

Hi,

I have a few suggestions:

1) The laggy mouse is annoying: is this because of unity? If possible you should try to fix this.

2) Even though there is a nice amount of tutorial messages is, an indicator of what to do next in game would be nice (such as a big arrow pointing to the right building)

3) Be consistent with tooltips, one time you are showing just text, the other time a full graphical tip, sometimes none! When you click on the upgrade tab I have no clue what upgrade is what for.

4) A restart level option would be nice, instead of always have to exit and reselect the level

5) Red faction and blue faction: you should use these colors to decorate and mark territory more. Right now the whole map has blue lines, use red lines for the red base.

6) The level 4 is too difficult, start off slowly! Is "4" just a name, or is the 4th level? Why start with the 4th level? You're pushing new players away.

7) In the upgrade tab, for each weapon the upgrade icons are all the same. Be a bit more unique and thoughtful, and get more diverse upgrades.

Hope you can do something with that. I also wrote a small review on my website.

Nick

Hi,

thanks for your succeeded objective review. This helps us to improve this game by all available means we have up to the release. Also your suggestions cut right to the chase of the matter. Well done. Only faithful statements can progress POD.

@1 This is not because of unity, perhaps you have played it with low frame rates, just try play POD with the lowest "as fast as possible" graphic settings.

@2, @3, @5, @7 We will give it some thought. This is not that easy to modify. Have to see what can be done.

@4 This is a good addition.

@6 "4" is the 4th level, we thought it would be more interesting having 6 open robots, than just 3, because in the 1st level you have only 3 robots. And difficulty is very subjective, people playing tower defense games regulary often said POD Beta is too easy, others again it is too difficult. So we think this topic depends on the target audience.
