Has anyone done this? Im looking into it, but alot of the papers im reading seem to be big projects. For my purposes it doesnt need to be some grand very real to life city. Just wondering if anyone has any tips, or tutorials/papers/sites that discuss this. Cheers. PS - its for a DirectX project if that makes any difference

How complex/realistic do you need it to be? At the very simplest, you could just generate a regular grid representing the traffic grid, and then further subdivide each 'block' to represent buildings. You would then give each building a random height, and perhaps combine some adjacent buildings into one for variety. (For greater realism, you could assign building heights using some more intelligent metric, since in real cities, buildings of like height tend to be grouped together somewhat.)

If that's too simplistic, perhaps you could go into a little more detail regarding the degree of realism that you need.
