OpenGL OpenGL Pixel Drawing

How would I draw a pixel to the screen? Wouldn't drawing each individual pixel make it real slow? I heard to make it faster the pixels should be drawn to a texture then displayed. Would that work? How do I draw a pixel to a texture?

1) Do you really want to draw pixels? or do you just want to display images?
2) glDrawPixels will let you draw individual dots on the screen.
3) glTexSubImage2d will let you replace part of a texture with new data. You'd make your edits to a texture buffer, then reupload the texture data with your pixel edits.
