Curious - Texture Speed

I have made a simple tetris game that runs at 200 fps (debug build)... However, I recently remade the game using textures (.png) rather than per vertex colors and my frame rate has dropped to 70 (again, debug build). The board is 10x18 block, so I am rendering 180 textures per frame. Anyways, is it normal for textures to be this much slower than per vertex colors?
