db and save/restore meshes
hy.
I would find a good method for save/restore 3d meshes an opengl application in
c++ to/from database.
The solution that i think are two:
1)save all mesh vertex data and texture in tables on a db
2)serialize in a binary file the mesh vertex data structures and textures and save only the path
of the serialized file.
i dont know what prestation have the towo solution ,but i think that the first solution is more
flexible and i can execute query on the data .
But the solution one, "kill the db" or is possible?
what do you think?
Thanks.
Why do you want to store meshes in a database? That's not what they're designed for at all - it's possible, but probably not a good idea.
thanks , Steeve , then is a better solution to store data in binary files with serialization then set the file path in db?
That sounds reasonable, yes - so long as you keep the database and files on disc in sync.
That's what phpbb does for avatars - the avatars themselves are just image files on disc, and the database contains the filename of the image.
